Aim and Scope

AI in Government and Academia is a one-day conference which will take place in Thursday 11th September 2025 at Manchester Metropolitan University.

The aim of the conference is to showcase excellent research, projects and collaborations between Government and Academia that utilise responsible and ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI). The conference will feature a series of keynotes from leading experts, presentation of a selection of peer reviewed papers and a panel session. Papers should highlight practical tools, methodologies and approaches using AI, clearly demonstrating the benefit to government (i.e. case studies).

 

Research Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Sustainability
  • Data intelligence
  • Ethical and responsible AI
  • Public services
  • AI Safety
  • AI systems embedded in autonomous and automated systems
  • Human-machine Trust and Risk in AI Systems
  • Specific applications of AI (business, economics, or manufacturing)
  • Public perception of AI
  • Role of AI in politics

Important Dates

  • Submission deadline: Friday 15th August 2025
  • Notification to Authors: Friday 29th August 2025
  • Final Manuscript Due: Friday 5th September 2025
  • Conference dates: 11th September 2025

Paper Guidelines and submission

Each paper submitted will receive at two reviews. The paper will be assessed based on 1) originality, significance, adherence to the scientific method, correctness, clarity, and quality of presentation and 2) benefit to Government.

Paper format: Papers should be a maximum of 10 pages in length and follow the template linked here. Where possible papers should be text based and limit the use of images.

  • Paper Title
  • List of Authors and affiliations
  • Email address of corresponding author
  • 100-word abstract
  • PDF of the paper

Accepted papers may be considered for publication in the AI Insights series on GOV.UK following the conference, subject to appropriate review and approval.
